DEFEAT ADDICTIONS RESEARCH SURVEYS

The Courtesy Checkup
Does treatment really help addicts achieve long-term sobriety?
Our Research Surveys Are Being Conducted To Determine:
1-What current alcoholics/addicts beliefs are about drug addiction.
2-What recovered alcoholics/addicts beliefs are about drug addiction.
3-What helped recovered alcoholics/addicts recover from drug addiction.
4-What is stopping alcoholics/addicts from recovering from drug addiction.
5-Whether treatment is helping alcoholics/addicts achieve long-term sobriety.
6-Whether Alcoholics Anonymous is helping alcoholics/addicts achieve long-term sobriety.
7-AND to provide taxpayers with a creditable report on 12-step/disease based treatment success and failure rates.
One of the biggest deceptions portrayed by the addiction field is treatment providers claiming success in the face
of contradicting evidence. How do
they do this? It's quite simple, they: (1) choose only good prognosis cases to
evaluate;(2) keep follow-up periods as short as possible; (3) avoid control and comparison groups; (4) choose
measures carefully; (5) focus only on alcohol outcomes; (6) use liberal definitions of success; (7) rely solely upon
self-report and (8) always declare victory regardless of findings.
And when confronted with failure rates-blame it on
a disease!
What people don't realize is most of these programs are only benefiting those with a vested interest in
using addicts to make a quick buck. We as taxpayers are just wasting millions on treatment programs proven not to
work. We believe the techniques and beliefs currently being taught in the addiction field is causing addicts more
harm than good. The current system will not be changed until the public is educated in treatment providers true
failure rates.

Defeat Addictions proposes that a courtesy checkup is done on all addicts forced into treatment. This check up will
occur 1-year after their client is released from aftercare, has completed drug court successfully, and finished
probation. The reason for this is to get the truth as to if their program really helped their clients achieve long-term
sobriety. Addicts have a tendency to be more honest about their drug use when they have been released from all
authority's pressure and don't have to check in with a drug counselor. The checkup will be done by an independent
organization with no ties to the addiction field and/or the courts. The results will be published in the newspaper for
the public to decide if what professionals are using is helpful or not. Shouldn't we be spending our money on
programs that really work and stop funding those that don't? It's time for a change within the addiction field and we
as a community can make it happen.
Success is when the addict maintains abstinence from all alcohol and drug use.

Petition A 2-Year Followup
Can alcohol and drug addiction be medically treated? Does residential substance abuse treatment help addicts
free themselves from their drug addictions or are we as taxpayers just wasting millions on treatment providers so
they can treat the same alcoholics and addicts over and over again
unsuccessfully? Does teaching the alcoholic
and addict that drug
addiction is a lifelong chronic incurable brain disease give them hope and help them learn to
take responsibility for their
behavior? Is there any evidence, research, or controversy that drug addiction is in fact
not* a chronic-incurable -brain-disease? How can professionals with a vested interest claim drug addiction is a
relapsing
disease without any scientific evidence to base their claim on? Is it beneficial to alcoholics and addicts
when professionals prescribe
dangerous drugs in treating a drug addiction problem or in covering up mental health
issues? Why do residential substance abuse
treatment providers only do 6-12 month followups knowing recovery
from drug addiction is a long-term process? How can professionals promote treatment works when
85-98% of their
clients fail to maintain sobriety long-term and provide no facts to back up their claim? Is it being fair and honest with
alcoholics and addicts when treatment providers claim treatment works if it really
doesn't? Why do treatment
providers recommend
Alcoholics Anonymous as aftercare knowing A.A. has a high failure rate? Can alcoholics and
addicts fully recover from their drug addiction on their own
without treatment? Is it true that untreated alcoholics
are
twice as likely to get sober and stay sober than alcoholics subjected to residential treatment? Can drug
addiction be medically treated?

There continues to be a lot of confusion and as to whether substance abuse treatment really helps the addict
achieve absolute abstinence. To help end all the controversy on whether residential substance abuse treatment is
effective or not we recommend communities to petition a state law requiring residential substance abuse treatment
providers to present addicts and their families with a mandatory 2-year followup on all their clients success and
failure rates. This will reveal whether or not their program is truly helping their clients learn the coping skills and
lifestyle development required for sobriety. It's time for treatment providers to take some responsibility for the lives
they are so eager to influence and start producing verifiable results. Please take a stand in your community and let's
give addicts an honest chance at defeating their substance abuse and drug addiction with a

MANDATORY 2-YEAR FOLLOWUP!
* Excessive and long-term drug use can in fact temporarily change chemical reactions and how the brain normally
functions. Treatment providers base their claim of excessive drug use as being a chronic incurable brain disease
because through brain scans scientists can measure the damaging effects excessive drug use has on the brains'
function compared to a normal brain. What they don't tell you is that brain scans have also showed that after
prolonged
abstinence from excessive drug use the brain will return to normal (with the exception of sever brain
damage). The only way to prove excessive drug use leads to a chronic
incurable brain disease is to prove that all
addicts brains don't return to normal. At this time there is
NO substantial evidence that drug addiction is in fact a
brain disease. There has been countless studies and millions of taxpayers dollars wasted on research trying to
prove that drug addiction is a brain disease. Why?
BIG MONEY!!! Drug addiction is only treatable if it's classified as
a disease
. How harmful it is to label everyone who has a behavior problem with the worst possible case of alcohol
and drug addiction dependency.
We encourage communities to petition a mandatory 2-year followup on all addicts subjected to
residential treatment and a 1-year followup on all addicts who completed 12-step treatment and
probation. We ask those who are interested in standing up for addicts and finding effective ways
of helping them to contact
Mr. X or the Wyoming legislators.
